The Chamber is honoured to partner with the Irish Person of the Year committee in recognising the incredible talent and accomplishments of Mr. Colm Wilkinson, the 2017 Toronto Irish Person of the Year.
Colm, a Dublin native, but long-time Toronto resident, is arguably one of a handful of Irish men or women to reach “world number 1” status in their chosen profession. Playing the lead role of Valjean in the original West End and Broadway productions of Les Misearables, Colm achieved global superstar status in the late 1980’s. Subsequent to that he made the lead role of Phantom of Opera all his own, in a record-breaking 5 year stint at the Pantages theatre here in Toronto. He continues to enthrall audiences to this day, and most notably starred in RTE’s iconic 2016 production “Centenary”, marking the 100 year anniversary of the Easter Rising.
Colm and his wife Deirdre will be honoured at a luncheon in the Toronto Hilton on Sunday March 5th. The lunch will be preceded by the raising of the Irish flag at City Hall at 11am that morning by Mr. Gerry Hurley.
